Cincinnati's Bearcats suffered a 42-6 halftime deficit against No. 6 Utah at Nippert Stadium, a performance that recalled their 51-3 halftime loss to USF in 2015.
Despite entering the game with the eighth-ranked rushing attack in the nation, the Bearcats were held out of the end zone in the first half by Utah's top-10 red zone defense. Head coach Scott Satterfield acknowledged the lopsided nature of the first half, noting that many of the 36,487 spectators departed for local Halloween events while the team trailed by 35 points.
The Bearcats managed to close the gap to 24 points in the fourth quarter, and their defense prevented Utah from reaching 50 points by stopping a fourth-down attempt from the one-yard line with just over a minute remaining. This defeat marks the program's worst margin in Big 12 play, surpassing previous large losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State.
Historically, the Bearcats' most significant blowout remains an 81-0 loss to Penn State in 1991, while more recent heavy defeats include a 51-23 loss to UCF in 2017 and a 42-0 shutout by Ohio State in 2019.
