Following a major injury to starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, the Giants have traded a fifth-round pick to acquire J.J. McCarthy to shore up their depth.
Despite a 2-1 start, management felt compelled to make a move after reviewing the current roster situation and realizing they needed insurance behind Jameis Winston. Head coach John Harbaugh expressed excitement over adding the young signal-caller to the team.
McCarthy previously struggled during his time in Minnesota, where he recorded six wins and four losses as a starter alongside eleven touchdowns and twelve interceptions before falling behind on the depth chart. The front office had previously thoroughly evaluated McCarthy during the 2024 draft process before ultimately passing on him.
