Geno Auriemma warns Breanna Stewart doubters: ‘Don’t bet on anybody else’

During Big East Media Day at the Marriott Marquis in New York on Thursday, October 1, 2026, veteran mentor Geno Auriemma strongly defended Breanna Stewart against any postseason skeptics. He asserted that nobody matches her championship pedigree since he first observed her play at age fifteen.

Stewart herself expressed complete self-assurance during Friday remarks, emphasizing her detachment from external judgment and her unique capabilities on the court.

Auriemma highlighted the stark difference between regular season play and Stewart's exceptional postseason performance, ranking her clutch execution alongside Diana Taurasi. Stewart's extensive trophy collection includes four consecutive college championships at UConn under two undefeated seasons, twenty-three March Madness victories, three WNBA titles, four World Cup golds, three EuroLeague titles, three Olympic gold medals, an Unrivaled championship from March, a EuroLeague title from April, the WNBA Commissioner's Cup in June, and the FIBA World Cup title in September.
