Matt Nieto has officially called time on his professional hockey career following persistent physical setbacks. The veteran depth winger communicated his decision via his social media channels, pointing to ongoing health challenges as the driving factor behind his departure from the sport.
Throughout a twelve-year professional journey that spanned 705 appearances, the forward accumulated 87 goals and 119 assists for a total of 206 points, alongside 62 postseason contests.
His final two professional campaigns were spent representing the Pittsburgh organization, where physical limitations restricted his participation to just 54 appearances over that timeframe. During those matches, he produced two goals and five assists, while also logging time in the American Hockey League with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton affiliate.
Across his career, he additionally wore the sweaters of San Jose and Colorado, establishing himself as a reliable bottom-six contributor and adding eight goals during playoff action.
