Everton secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over struggling Newcastle United in a Premier League clash at St James’ Park, snapping a recent run of poor form for the home side. Thierno Barry doubled his tally in five days by capitalizing on a Tyrique George assist in the 49th minute, his eighth goal in 12 appearances this season.
Newcastle’s late hopes were dashed when Jacob Ramsey received a straight red card in stoppage time for a second yellow in quick succession, following a contentious challenge on Harrison Armstrong. Everton dominated possession and nearly doubled their lead, with Jarrad Branthwaite’s header saved by Jordan Pickford in the second half, while a late penalty appeal for Everton was denied after VAR review upheld referee John Brooks’ decision.
The win marks Everton’s first league victory since September, lifting them to seventh in the table, while Newcastle—who have lost four of their last five games—remain 13th and winless in their last five matches at home this season. Meanwhile, Everton’s disciplinary issues continued as Jack Grealish missed his second consecutive game against Newcastle due to a training breach, raising questions about his future at the club with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Merlin Rohl stepping into the midfield role.
