Haas announced that Esteban Ocon will sit out the remainder of the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, with reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa stepping into the seat starting from the third practice session. This weekend marks the competitive F1 bow for the Japanese competitor, who previously handled the VF-26 during Friday's opening practice and placed 15th overall.
Team officials clarified that health issues did not prompt the swap, though they offered no further explanation for the sudden lineup change. Hirakawa will team up with Ollie Bearman for the upcoming practice, qualifying, and the full 71-lap grand prix.
Ocon previously finished 13th in the second practice session before losing his seat for the rest of the event.
