ESPN’s CFP negotiations have reportedly been ‘tough sledding’

As the October 9 deadline approaches, discussions regarding a potential 24-team postseason format between ESPN and the College Football Playoff have hit significant obstacles. Sources indicate that conference partners are struggling to bridge financial gaps tied to the loss of championship contests, such as the SEC title game, which generates roughly 100 million dollars annually.

If a proprietary agreement cannot be finalized before the exclusive negotiating window closes, broadcast rights will open to competing networks like Fox, NBC, and Prime Video.
