Letizia Borghesi delivered a dominant performance on stage 4 of the Eneco Tour Women, securing her second career victory and first in seven years with a decisive attack on the Col du VAM. The Italian rider exploited the steep, cobbled ascent—built atop a rubbish dump in Drenthe, Netherlands—to break clear of the leading group, which had dwindled to around 15 riders before the final climb.
Borghesi’s aggressive move through a right-hand bend caught out her rivals, including race leader Lieke Nooijen, who finished third despite retaining her overall lead by six seconds over Femke Markus. Pfeiffer Georgi claimed second place, four seconds behind, as Borghesi’s bold ride extended her gap to the line and propelled her onto the overall podium at 39 seconds back of Nooijen.
The stage’s treacherous conditions, worsened by rain, added to the drama, with Borghesi’s tactical cornering and relentless pace ensuring a memorable triumph on the 115km circuit-based route.
