The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense may be struggling, but there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon for their Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Both running back DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley appear to be progressing toward potential returns, though their availability remains uncertain.
Smith, who has been sidelined for two games due to a hamstring issue, was spotted stretching during team warm-ups last week before being unable to participate in practice. Barkley, meanwhile, was absent from all practice sessions, suggesting he may still be further from readiness.
With the Eagles’ offensive line under pressure and their depth at running back already thin—after Tank Bigsby (injured reserve) and Will Shipley (foot injury) are out—the return of even one of these stars could provide a much-needed boost. If both players are cleared, the team’s backfield would regain its top two options, though rushing them back prematurely risks reopening their injuries.
The Eagles’ first practice of the week on Wednesday will be closely watched, as Thursday and Friday’s injury updates will determine whether Smith and Barkley are in the mix for Sunday’s game.
