Ducati has dismissed recent speculation that ten-time MotoGP champion Maverick Viñales could join the Italian team as a test rider for 2027. Team manager Davide Tardozzi clarified that the rumors originated from a journalist observing the pair walking together in the paddock during the Motegi round, with no formal discussions or agreements in place.
Viñales, who recently lost his seat with Tech3 and KTM due to a contract dispute, remains without a confirmed ride for next season, though his future is still under consideration with five races left in 2026. Ducati, however, has yet to finalize any plans for a test rider, despite needing to address potential gaps in its lineup as Michele Pirro approaches retirement at age 40 and current rider Nicolò Bò will move into a full-time race seat in 2027.
Viñales, known for his extensive experience across multiple bikes, would bring valuable expertise but has expressed skepticism about the motivational aspects of a test role, particularly after the ban on wildcard appearances in 2027. The team’s current focus remains on evaluating future options, though no concrete decisions have been made.
