The Atlanta Dream secured a spot in the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013 after defeating the New York Liberty 85-83 in Game 3 of the semifinals. Angel Reese led the charge with 22 points, including 18 in the first half, while also contributing nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in a physical matchup against Jonquel Jones.
Rhyne Howard added 21 points, and Jordin Canada provided a crucial second-half spark with 19 points and 11 assists. Despite a 25-18 first-quarter lead, Atlanta allowed New York to mount a comeback, as the Liberty erased a 12-point deficit in the third quarter and took the lead following a 17-4 run.
Jones finished with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, 14 rebounds, and three blocks, while Breanna Stewart matched her scoring total with 26 points, converting all 13 of her free throws and adding four rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Sabrina Ionescu contributed 12 points, and the Dream advanced without Allisha Gray, who missed the game due to a left finger injury.
This victory extends a strong two-year run under head coach Karl Smesko, during which the team posted 30-14 records in each season.
