A fiery on-court exchange between WNBA stars Angel Reese and Sabrina Ionescu escalated into a heated confrontation during Game 3 of the New York Liberty’s Semifinals against the Atlanta Dream. The incident unfolded with 5:56 remaining in the second quarter, when Ionescu shoved Isobel Borlase during a play, prompting a defensive foul call.
Reese, who had been vocal about Ionescu’s defensive limitations in prior games, confronted the Liberty guard afterward, mouthing words aggressively as she stood near the baseline. Rhyne Howard and Jonquel Jones intervened to separate the two, but the tension was palpable.
Earlier in the game, Borlase had also drawn a foul after shoving Ionescu during a drive, adding to the back-and-forth between the players. The Dream ultimately prevailed 85-83, with Reese leading the team in scoring with 22 points, while Ionescu contributed 12 for the Liberty.
Broadcasters noted Reese’s behavior warranted a technical foul, underscoring the intensity of the moment between two of the league’s most prominent players.
