Drawing of lots sends Oman through to Gulf Cup semis

Oman advanced to the semi-finals of the Gulf Cup following a dramatic drawing of lots after finishing level with Iraq on four points and identical records in their group. The tie-breaker came into play because the two squads could not be separated by head-to-head records, goal difference, total goals, or disciplinary tallies.

Musab Al-Shaqsy nearly complicated qualification for Oman when he received a yellow card for removing his shirt after scoring against Kuwait, but the sides ultimately remained deadlocked until the final regulatory criterion forced tournament organizers to draw lots.
