The Miami Dolphins are poised to address their kicking struggles by bringing in veteran Zane Gonzalez, following a series of missed field goals and technical issues from incumbent Riley Patterson. Patterson has shown inconsistency this season, missing two of seven field-goal attempts and botching an extra point, while also drawing criticism for his kickoff execution.
Gonzalez, who spent last year with the Atlanta Falcons, boasts a career field-goal accuracy rate of 81% (115 of 142) and has proven reliable on short-range attempts, converting 19 of 22 field goals and 17 of 18 extra points in 2025. The move comes after Gonzalez participated in a workout that also included seven-time Pro Bowler Justin Tucker, though the Dolphins have reportedly settled on Gonzalez pending a physical.
The signing marks a swift response to Patterson’s struggles, with the team acting during its bye week to bolster a critical position.
