Bhuvneshwar Kumar has returned to the Indian national cricket team after a four-year absence, earning a spot in the T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand. The veteran fast bowler, who has been a standout performer in the past two seasons of the IPL, was notably omitted from the team despite his exceptional form.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru batting coach Dinesh Karthik praised the selection, calling Kumar one of the most consistent Indian fast bowlers in recent years and comparing his reliability to that of Jasprit Bumrah. Karthik emphasized Kumar’s ability to handle pressure, his skill in swinging the ball, and his capacity to deliver high-quality bowling, which India currently lacks among its fast bowlers.
The coach also highlighted the selectors’ decision to prioritize skill over age, suggesting Kumar’s return could benefit India’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympics. With his inclusion, Kumar will miss the Hong Kong Sixes tournament, where he was previously named captain for India.
