Colorado’s early-season momentum has evaporated after a three-game losing streak, raising fresh doubts about head coach Deion Sanders’s high-turnover roster model. The Buffaloes, who started 2–0 with wins over Georgia Tech and Weber State, have since lost by double-digit margins in each of their last three outings, including a 29–7 defeat to Texas Tech last weekend.
Sanders admitted the team’s struggles are self-evident, calling their seven-point effort against Texas Tech “not gonna win” and refusing to soften the criticism. The offense, ranked 124th nationally in scoring, has been the primary concern, with quarterback Julian Lewis—once the program’s prized recruit and a $1 million NIL prospect—benchmarked in favor of Isaac Wilson, Zach Wilson’s younger brother.
Lewis’s replacement hasn’t fared much better, posting a 56.3% completion rate and three interceptions in limited play, while Sanders hinted at deeper issues in the quarterback room without outright naming them.
Since taking over in 2023, Sanders has built Colorado through aggressive roster turnover, averaging roughly 42 transfers in and out each season, with mixed results. While stars like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter helped the Buffs to a 9–4 record last year, the current quarterback instability and offensive stagnation have left the program’s long-term viability under scrutiny.
With No. 12 Utah and No.
18 Oklahoma State looming on the schedule, Colorado’s ability to sustain even a mediocre performance remains an open question.
