Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has earned a recall to the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand, marking his return to the international setup after nearly four years. The 36-year-old, who recently excelled in the Indian Premier League, will miss his captaincy duties for the Hong Kong Sixes to join the national team.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been excluded from the T20I roster as part of a workload management strategy to ensure his availability for the subsequent ODI and Test matches. Shreyas Iyer will lead the 16-man squad, with Tilak Varma serving as his deputy for the series starting October 22.
Pragyan Ojha oversaw the selection process in an interim capacity. Additionally, the selectors announced an India A squad for a multi-day series featuring KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar.
