The Los Angeles Rams’ 2-2 start to the 2026 season may raise eyebrows given their championship pedigree, but historical trends suggest it’s far from a red flag. Since 2016, eight Super Bowl-winning teams began their campaigns with three or more wins in their first four games, while only two—including the 2018 Patriots and 2024 Eagles—started at 2-2.
Both of those teams overcame early struggles to claim titles, with Philadelphia’s 2024 squad winning 16 of its final 17 games after a rocky start under new coordinators Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. The Rams, meanwhile, have already faced a brutal setback: a 20-point loss to the 49ers in Australia to open the year, a trend mirrored by half of the past decade’s Super Bowl champions, who each suffered at least one double-digit defeat in their first four games.
On average, those losses were by 9.4 points, with nearly a third occurring in Week 1 alone—a reminder that even elite teams can be rocked early before finding their rhythm.
