Lawrence Dallaglio’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winner’s medal has fetched £54,000 at auction, marking the highest price among a collection of memorabilia from his decorated career. The former England captain, now 54, sold several items—including a British and Irish Lions cap for £11,000, an England cap for £8,000, and a 2003 Six Nations Championship medal for £7,500—as part of a bankruptcy-related auction.
While some pieces, such as his four Premiership title medals from his time with Wasps, remained unsold, the total proceeds from the sale reached £100,500, well above the initial £180,000 estimated value of the entire collection. Dallaglio, a pivotal figure in England’s dramatic 2003 World Cup victory over Australia, has since spoken openly about the financial struggles that led to his bankruptcy, attributing them to divorce and poor financial decisions.
He also revealed he sought therapy to cope with the emotional toll of the situation, describing a period of self-pity following the fallout.
