Dabo Swinney calls out ’embarrassing’ Fire Mike Norvell plane after beating Florida State

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney criticized a controversial pregame stunt by Florida State fans after his team defeated the Seminoles 36–24 on Saturday. A plane flew over the stadium before kickoff with a banner demanding the firing of Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, though the banner misspelled his last name.

Swinney called the display embarrassing and disrespectful, defending Norvell as a good man and coach while expressing disappointment that the university’s supporters would resort to such tactics. The loss marked Florida State’s third consecutive defeat, dropping them to 3–5 overall and 1–4 in ACC play, while also highlighting the financial hurdles of replacing Norvell, whose reported buyout could exceed $51 million if terminated before 2026.
