During a public gathering in Bengaluru, iconic cricketer MS Dhoni acknowledged the strong run of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in recent Indian Premier League seasons while noting his own squad's difficulties. The former national captain pointed out that paper strength means little in Twenty20 matches, where performance on match day dictates success.
Dhoni missed the 2026 tournament due to fitness concerns and previously sat out the 2025 campaign, during which his franchise finished at the bottom of the table, followed by an eighth-place finish in 2026. Conversely, his rivals secured consecutive championships in 2025 and 2026 under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
Dhoni emphasized that overcoming difficult periods defines true character and expressed optimism for a stronger showing in the 2027 edition.
