Ahead of the upcoming Week 3 international matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens at Maracanã Stadium, concerns regarding pitch safety were addressed. The NFLPA had previously expressed worries about the uneven nature of the turf, drawing comparisons to prior international game issues in São Paulo.
However, officials cleared the pitch following inspections conducted on Friday.
NFL field director Nick Pappas confirmed that the playing surface successfully cleared all required evaluations, involving both an independent examiner and a union representative. To enhance footing and stability, groundskeepers utilized a stitching machine to integrate artificial fibers into the turf shortly before kickoff.
