India recently secured a two-to-one victory in a three-match ODI series against West Indies, though the bowling attack struggled significantly as the opposition repeatedly surpassed 350 runs and even crossed the 400-mark in the second fixture. With several regular squad members unavailable due to Asian Games duties, the team management tested fringe bowlers Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj, who conceded 84 and 82 runs respectively during their appearances.
Following the conclusion of the series, captain Shubman Gill addressed the media regarding the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027 preparations.
Gill strongly hinted that the phase of heavy experimentation has concluded, stating that the coaching staff intends to settle on a preferred lineup moving forward instead of continuing to hand out debuts in short series. He acknowledged that international cricket is difficult for newcomers and noted that both Nabi and Kamboj possess useful attributes, such as lower-order batting capability at the crucial number eight position, which keeps them in consideration for future selection discussions with the selectors.
