South Carolina may look to backup quarterback Cutter Woods during their upcoming contest against Kentucky as starter LaNormis Sellers deals with passing struggles. While Sellers keeps his spot at the top of the depth chart, the coaching staff boosted Woods' snaps with the first-team offense during practice this week, though Sellers still captured the majority of the repetitions.
Head coach Shane Beamer emphasized internal competition, and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles did not rule out utilizing Woods against the Wildcats.
Sellers currently sits second-worst among Southeastern Conference quarterbacks with a 62.1 percent completion rate, contributing to the team ranking ninth in the conference through the air. Despite the passing woes, the Gamecocks boast the top rushing attack in the league, fueled by Sellers averaging 6.8 yards per carry.
Woods, a sophomore who signed in 2025 and is considered the program's quarterback of the future, has appeared in six career games exclusively in relief, completing 17 of 25 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. South Carolina heads into the home matchup carrying a 2-2 overall record and an 0-2 mark in conference play.
