Washington Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a season-ending torn patella tendon during Monday night’s 23–17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, forcing him out for the entire 2026 campaign. The injury occurred in the first quarter when McLaurin went down while running a route, unable to reach the sideline before being placed in an air cast and carted off the field.
Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the devastating news Tuesday, calling McLaurin—a team captain and key leader—“one of our real leaders” and expressing deep disappointment over the loss of his contributions both on and off the field. McLaurin, 31, will undergo surgery in the coming days, with the Commanders already preparing to rely on a deeper receiver group, including Stefon Diggs, to absorb his workload.
Quinn acknowledged the challenge of replacing McLaurin’s unique impact, emphasizing the team’s need for others to step up in his absence.
