College football player dies after suffering 'traumatic injury' during game

Southern Nazarene University sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich, 21, has died following a severe injury suffered during a football game against Ouachita Baptist University on October 10. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound player from Azle, Texas, was rushed to a hospital after the incident and remained there until his passing.

Ulrich, who joined SNU’s Division II program directly from high school, was described as a beloved member of the team and campus community. In a statement, university president Dr.

Keith Newman expressed deep sorrow, noting that Ulrich’s family, teammates, and friends had been surrounded by support since the injury. The school has offered counseling and spiritual guidance to help the campus process the loss, emphasizing faith as a source of comfort during this difficult time.
