Sophie Cunningham used her podcast with NBA skills coach Drew Hanlen to criticize playoff opponents for giving Angel Reese too much space on the perimeter, noting that Reese’s defensive contributions are strong but her offensive game is expanding. She pointed out that Reese, who was not previously known as a prolific three‑point shooter, hit five of 13 attempts in the postseason, a sharp rise from her 11‑for‑57 regular‑season mark, and improved her free‑throw shooting to 87.1% from 72.1%.
Cunningham also highlighted Reese’s rebounding and shot‑blocking, comparing her development to that of A’ja Wilson’s early years, and warned that teams must contest her shots to disrupt her confidence. The upcoming finals between the Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream are expected to feature tighter defense on Reese, who has credited Dream coach Karl Smesko for her shooting progress.
