Christian Horner claims Lewis Hamilton wanted Red Bull move in ‘secret meeting’

Former Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Lewis Hamilton approached the team in late 2012, seeking a seat beside Sebastian Vettel. He recounts a discreet meeting at Adrian Newey’s house near Ascot where Hamilton asked if Red Bull could be his next destination, after a difficult final season with McLaren.

Horner notes that both he and Newey were intrigued, but Helmut Marko was wary and the required financial package was deemed excessive. The discussion never progressed, and Hamilton ultimately signed a multi‑year deal with Mercedes for the 2013 season.

He later added six more world titles with Mercedes before moving to Ferrari in 2025.
