Australia left-armer Mitchell Starc claimed his 450th Test wicket by dismissing South Africa captain Wiaan Mulder during the second Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. The dismissal, which came in the 50th over of South Africa’s first innings on Day 3, was confirmed by a review after the ball brushed Mulder’s glove before striking his helmet and being taken at first slip by Matt Renshaw.
This achievement marks Starc as the quickest bowler in history to reach the 450-wicket milestone by deliveries, requiring just 20,577 balls compared to Glenn McGrath’s previous record of 23,474. Although Starc reached the mark in his 109th Test, he trails Muttiah Muralitharan, who achieved the same total in only 80 matches.
Starc now sits fourth on Australia’s all-time Test wicket-takers list, behind Shane Warne, Nathan Lyon, and McGrath. Teammate Scott Boland also featured prominently, removing Aiden Markram and David Bedingham on consecutive deliveries to disrupt the South African top order.
