UFC lightweight Charles Oliveira dismissed criticism over his tactical approach after dominating Max Holloway to win the BMF belt in March, insisting he won’t alter his style to satisfy fans. Oliveira, who has finished 21 of his 25 UFC wins since 2010, faced backlash for out-grappling Holloway in their five-round fight, with some fans calling his performance ‘boring.’ The 13-time submission champion shot down the noise, telling MMA Fighting that his only goal is victory—whether through strikes or ground control—while pointing out that Holloway later fought Conor McGregor in a high-profile rematch.
Oliveira, set to defend his BMF title against Diego Lopes at UFC 335 on December 12 in Las Vegas, argued that no fighter in the division has matched his dominance over Holloway, both standing and on the ground. He also noted that his success—including multiple bonuses and record finishes—proves his approach works, regardless of fan preferences.
‘If the BMF belt is about rock ’em sock ’em robots, take it somewhere else,’ Oliveira said, emphasizing that his focus remains on performance, not entertainment value.
