College Football Playoff selection committee chair Hunter Yurachek attributed Notre Dame's placement at No. 11 in the inaugural CFP rankings to the Fighting Irish's lack of a marquee victory, despite their strong start to the 2026 season.
Yurachek noted that the team has a prime chance to change that perception this weekend when they host the undefeated Miami Hurricanes, who currently hold the top seed.
Notre Dame entered this matchup with a 7-1 record, having dropped a 28-24 road game against then-No. 8 BYU on October 17 before rebounding with a 35-13 win over Navy on October 31.
The clash at Notre Dame Stadium is the final opportunity on the Irish's schedule to secure a high-profile win, as their remaining opponents are Boston College, SMU, and Syracuse.
