Celtic and Rangers have formally challenged a Scottish FA ruling that would force both clubs to play a future Scottish Cup fixture behind closed doors. The disciplinary action stems from ugly crowd trouble during their quarter-final clash earlier this year, which involved pitch invasions, pyrotechnics, and missiles.
In addition to the stadium closure penalty, the two clubs were ordered to pay a one hundred thousand pound sum to their opponents, a financial penalty they are also contesting. An official appeal hearing has been scheduled for the twenty-sixth of October.
Police Scotland reported a total of forty-three arrests following the violent scenes that left officers injured after the match ended in a four-two penalty shootout victory for Celtic.
