Carolina Panthers Roster: Jimmy Horn Jr waived to make room for run defender

The Carolina Panthers adjusted their depth chart following a disastrous season-opening loss in which they surrendered 59 points to the Chicago Bears. Seeking reinforcements after the lopsided defeat, the reigning NFC South champions signed free agent inside linebacker Tyrel Dodson to the active roster to bolster their front seven against the run.

Dodson, who previously started games during a stint with the Miami Dolphins, will step into a defense led by coordinator Ejiro Evero that faced heavy scrutiny after the blowout.

To make room on the 53-man squad for the defensive upgrade, Carolina chose to waive wide receiver and return specialist Jimmy Horn Jr. The former Colorado standout, selected in the 2025 draft, was let go just days after committing a costly muffed punt in the Week 1 rout.

While the popular second-year pass catcher's departure ends his tenure with the team, the Panthers prioritized shoring up their tackling options in the wake of their historical opening weekend struggles.
