Australia’s Cameron Green remains in doubt for the second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha after failing to resume batting following an abdominal injury sustained in the final ODI last month. Head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed Green has yet to fully recover, with limited time to assess his fitness before the match begins on Thursday.
While Green completed running drills during the first Test in Durban, McDonald suggested he is unlikely to bowl during the tour, even if he returns as a specialist batter. Australia’s 214-run victory in Durban secured a 1-0 series lead, with Matt Renshaw’s standout performance—including an unbeaten 190—highlighting the team’s adaptability after reshuffling the batting order due to Green’s absence.
Nic Maddinson opened alongside Travis Head, while Renshaw moved to No. 5, a tactical shift finalized just two days before the Test began.
Meanwhile, Josh Inglis is also progressing toward a return after fracturing his finger in the first ODI, having resumed batting practice in nets during the Durban Test and preparing to increase his workload in Gqeberha.
