New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo accepted his limited role in Sunday’s 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, acknowledging the team’s decision stemmed from his four fumbles over the first five games of the season. Despite knowing he would not start and would see reduced playing time, Skattebo did not anticipate being restricted to just six offensive snaps—all in the first half—with no carries at all.
The Giants’ offense relied on Tyrone Tracy Jr., Najee Harris, and Devin Singletary, who combined for 14 carries totaling 34 yards in Skattebo’s absence. Coach John Harbaugh clarified the bench decision was not intentional, noting Skattebo was simply not involved when run plays were called.
Skattebo, who had averaged 18.2 touches per game before the game, responded with professionalism, stating he understood the consequences of his mistakes and would focus on regaining his role through hard work in practice. His latest miscue came in overtime of last week’s tie against the Washington Commanders, where he fumbled in field-goal range.
Skattebo’s determination to bounce back was evident as he emphasized the need to ‘keep his head down’ and continue proving his value to the team.
