Bryson DeChambeau faced an unexpected challenge when he and fellow distance golfer Martin Borgmeier took on five high school golfers from Walnut Grove High School in a nine-hole scramble at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Texas. The reigning Texas UIL Class 5A state champions, Walnut Grove dominated the match, finishing eight under par and winning by four strokes.
Despite DeChambeau’s two-time U.S. Open champion pedigree and Borgmeier’s elite long-drive credentials, the high schoolers’ teamwork and precision proved decisive across all holes.
The victory earned the Walnut Grove players a pizza party, which DeChambeau fulfilled by visiting the school afterward for a celebratory meal. The match highlighted the young golfers’ skill, as they outplayed two of the sport’s most dominant distance specialists in a format that favored their collective shot selection.
