Michael Brennan secured his third PGA Tour victory with a clutch final-round performance at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, edging out two-time major champion Xander Schauffele by a single stroke. The 24-year-old American finished at 16-under-par after shooting a three-under 68 in the final round, holding off Schauffele’s late charge, which included a costly double bogey on the last hole.
Brennan’s win marks his second title of 2026, following his victory at the Wyndham Championship in August, while Schauffele, the 2021 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, fell three shots back despite a strong four-under 67. Jacob Bridgeman nearly forced a playoff, trailing Brennan by just one stroke entering the final hole before a missed birdie putt cost him the chance to claim back-to-back wins after his recent Biltmore Championship triumph.
Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, finished on nine-under but struggled on the back nine, bogeying two consecutive holes after a strong start that included six birdies in the first 10 holes. Jordan Spieth, a three-time major winner, also had a solid round with an 11-under total, while defending champion Collin Morikawa, the 2024 Japan Open winner, closed at six-under.
