Penn State football has received a trio of notable recruiting updates that offer a glimmer of hope amid recent setbacks. The Nittany Lions extended an offer to 2029 four-star defensive tackle Kennedy Hurte-Jones, a standout prospect with offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and Rutgers.
Hurte-Jones, who posted his excitement on social media, represents a key addition for Penn State’s long-term defensive plans in the Northeast recruiting region. Meanwhile, the program also secured an offer from 2028 wide receiver Christopha Alston, who earned a fourth-star rating and is currently the No.
18 wide receiver in his class. Alston, who has visited Penn State twice, is viewed as a top target and faces competition from Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse, Maryland, and Minnesota.
Adding to the intrigue, Mario Manningham Jr., son of the legendary Penn State quarterback, accepted an offer from the Nittany Lions, marking a symbolic moment exactly 21 years after his father’s infamous play altered the program’s perfect season in 2005. Manningham Jr.
has received just two offers thus far—Michigan and Penn State—highlighting his unique connection to the program. The recruiting landscape shifted further when four-star defensive lineman MJ Woods decommitted from Boston College, scheduling a visit to Penn State and opening another potential opportunity for the Nittany Lions in the 2028 class.
