The Marylebone Cricket Club has introduced seventy-three updates to the regulations of the sport, scheduled to take effect at the start of October, with the goal of restoring parity between batters and bowlers. A key adjustment in multi-day matches dictates that if a dismissal occurs in the final over of a day, the incoming batter must step up to face the remaining deliveries rather than play halting immediately.
Fraser Stewart, representing the governing body, noted that this adjustment empowers the fielding side and encourages strategic choices regarding night watchmen. In addition, the organization collaborated with the International Cricket Council to release a specialized mobile application providing translated rulebooks in multiple languages.
Speaking at an umpire seminar hosted by the Delhi and District Cricket Association, officials highlighted the importance of these adjustments as the sport expands globally. DDCA president Rohan Jaitley and director Shyam Sharma participated in discussions alongside visiting representatives.
Stewart also acknowledged ongoing efforts to monitor bat dominance, recalling earlier bat-size reductions implemented in 2017 to counter the growing power and aggressive styles of modern hitters.
