India claimed a historic silver medal in the recurve mixed team archery event at the Aichi-Nagoya Games on Friday. The duo of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod finished second after dropping the gold-medal match to China by a score of 5-3, narrowly missing an early qualification spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The final began with China taking the initial two sets before India mounted a brief recovery to claim the third. However, the Chinese squad sealed the victory in the fourth set to secure the top step of the podium.
Earlier in the day, the Indian pair advanced to the title match by overcoming Japan in a hard-fought semi-final battle that concluded with a narrow escape in the final set.
