Andy Roddick tells Iga Swiatek what to do next after tearful defeat at the Wuhan Open

Following a difficult semifinal loss to Maja Chwalinska at the Wuhan Open, Iga Swiatek faced physical struggles that prompted former world number one Andy Roddick to advise her to prioritize her long-term health over qualifying for the WTA Finals. Roddick argued that a six-time Grand Slam champion should focus on physical and mental recovery rather than playing through injuries during the less critical portions of the tennis calendar.

Swiatek has since withdrawn from the Ningbo Open and concluded her 2026 season early.
