Miami Heat reserve Myron Gardner drew unwanted attention during Wednesday's season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards attributed his 45-point performance to the motivation he felt after Gardner directed trash talk toward him from the bench.
The Timberwolves secured a 131-106 victory, and Edwards noted that he did not even know the identity of the player who had been heckling him. Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra addressed the incident, stating that while he appreciates Gardner's competitive drive, he expects more discretion when engaging with opposing stars.
Spoelstra emphasized that Gardner needs to exercise better judgment in the future, particularly when he is not actively participating in the game. Gardner has previously been involved in other notable verbal and physical altercations, including a past incident with Klay Thompson and a separate ejection that resulted in a $35,000 fine.
