The Mesa Solar Sox, a composite squad featuring prospects from the Cubs, Athletics, Angels, Blue Jays, and Red Sox systems, posted a mixed week in the Arizona Fall League. Despite finishing 1-3-1 (including a tie), the team outscored opponents 29-28, with three of their four losses decided by a single run.
Highlights included a dominant offensive outing on Saturday, where the Solar Sox rallied to a 7-3 victory over the Peoria Javelinas, though they fell in a nail-biter to the Scottsdale Scorpions the previous day, 11-10 in extra innings.
Pitching and position-player standouts emerged amid the team’s uneven stretch. Cubs outfielder Kade Snell, the team’s starting right fielder in three games, showed plate discipline with four walks but struggled at the plate, managing just one hit in ten at-bats.
Meanwhile, young infielder Juan Cabada, the AFL’s second-youngest player at 18, contributed defensively and offensively, including a stolen base and a run batted in, despite a .133 batting average. The Solar Sox’s depth and competitive spirit were on full display, even as they remain just 2-4-1 on the season.
