The Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and one of the league’s most dominant forces, became the butt of the joke on Sunday during the team’s 24-9 win over the Chargers in the Battle for LA. With just over a minute left in the third quarter, Donald had a clear path to his first career defensive touchdown after a strip-sack by rookie linebacker Wesley Bailey sent the ball bouncing toward him at the 26-yard line.
Confident in his ability to scoop and score, Donald lunged for the loose football near the 20-yard line—only to fumble the recovery, stumble forward, and knock the ball out of bounds instead. The botched attempt cost the Rams a potential six points and left Donald visibly stunned, while his teammates erupted in laughter, including superstar Myles Garrett, who watched from the sidelines on an exercise bike and couldn’t contain his amusement.
Head coach Sean McVay, who saw Donald’s miscue firsthand, wasted no time teasing his star player, calling the play “what the hell” and vowing to give him endless grief. Even linebacker Byron Young chimed in with playful humor, joking about Donald’s age while insisting he remains a constant presence on the field.
