7 Players Withdraw from WTA Ningbo and Osaka

The WTA’s final stretch of tournaments has already seen a wave of withdrawals as top players prioritize rest or prepare for the season-ending WTA Finals. Jessica Pegula, a dominant force this year, has pulled out of the Ningbo WTA 500 after a mixed post-US Open swing, including an early exit in Wuhan.

With her Finals spot already secured, Pegula will use the break to fine-tune her game ahead of the year’s last major event. Similarly, Elina Svitolina, another Finals qualifier, has also withdrawn from Ningbo, opting for a rest week despite still being in contention for Tokyo.

Injury has forced Anna Kalinskaya out of both Beijing and Wuhan, leading to her withdrawal from Ningbo as well. Meanwhile, in Osaka, Qinwen Zheng—recently crowned in Beijing—has also withdrawn, choosing to sit out the WTA 250 event after her title-winning run.

The absences have reshuffled the draw, with Leylah Fernandez replacing Pegula in Ningbo, while Diane Parry and Anhelina Kalinina step in as lucky losers to fill the remaining spots.
