The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with wide receiver Dante Pettis, bringing the veteran back to the franchise that originally drafted him in the second round of 2018. Approaching his 31st birthday next month, Pettis joins the organization following a tryout alongside eight other candidates to help stabilize a depleted wide receiver group.
The franchise plans to slot the returning pass-catcher into an open vacancy on their practice squad.
During his initial tenure with the team, Pettis spent two incomplete seasons in the Bay Area prior to being waived in 2020. Since that departure, his professional career included stops with the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints, where he accumulated 227 yards and a touchdown across 16 appearances over two seasons.
While he will not occupy a primary role in the offense, his familiarity with the scheme run by head coach Kyle Shanahan offers valuable depth amid an ongoing wave of injuries.
