Three-time All-Star pitcher Liam Hendriks has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball following a 14-year career. Throughout his time in the league, the veteran reliever played for teams including the Athletics and the White Sox, compiling a career 3.88 ERA across 490 appearances.
He earned back-to-back American League Reliever of the Year honors between 2020 and 2021, a dominant span during which he recorded a 2.34 ERA and led the majors with 52 saves.
Beyond his performance on the mound, Hendriks and his wife Kristi established the Hendriks' Heroes nonprofit organization to support cancer research, animal rescue operations, and initiatives for veterans and first responders. His charitable efforts earned him seven nominations for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award.
In his retirement statement, the Australian-born pitcher noted that his arm and elbow simply no longer have any fastballs left to throw.
