The Atlanta Dream’s playoff run has been defined by Angel Reese’s fiery intensity, both defensively and in her verbal exchanges with opponents. Reese’s aggressive style resurfaced in Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals against the New York Liberty, where she was fined $500 for a technical foul after a physical altercation with Jonquel Jones.
Later in the game, Reese chased down Sabrina Ionescu and yelled in her ear, a move that drew criticism from Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who argued on her podcast that Reese should have been called for a technical foul on that play as well. Cunningham, a longtime rival, praised Reese’s team loyalty but questioned the inconsistency in officiating, calling the non-call on the Ionescu incident ‘absolutely insane.’ The Dream’s sweep of the Liberty secured their first WNBA Finals appearance since 2013, where they will now face the Golden State Valkyries starting October 17.
