‘Who Will Deion (Sanders) Blame This Year?’ — Super Bowl Champion Calls Coach Prime’s Extension a ‘Major Mistake’ by Colorado

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders faces mounting criticism following a three-game losing streak and a 2-3 start to the current campaign. This downturn has triggered backlash regarding his five-year, $54 million contract extension signed in March 2025, which guarantees him $10 million in 2026 and $11 million annually for the following two years.

Former NFL player Brandon Stokley publicly labeled the extension a significant error, questioning the program's future trajectory and leadership accountability. Meanwhile, analyst Joel Klatt suggested that athletic departments frequently rush into these lucrative deals due to the pressure to secure their own coaching hires.

The Buffaloes are currently struggling with turnovers, which directly contributed to 19 points in a recent loss to Texas Tech, while quarterback Julian Lewis has failed to meet performance expectations.
