Pakistan’s white-ball squads for the upcoming Sri Lanka series have sparked confusion after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced teams without naming vice-captains for either the T20I or ODI formats. The squads, revealed on October 5, feature Sahibzada Farhan as T20I captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as ODI captain, but omit any designated deputy in both lineups.
With the T20I series set to begin on October 9 and the ODI tri-series (including England) starting on October 18, the absence of a vice-captain raises questions about leadership structure and contingency plans. Former cricketer Basit Ali publicly questioned PCB official Aaqib Javed on social media, asking for clarity on the role, which remains unfilled despite Abdul Samad’s recent tenure as vice-captain during the Asian Games.
The PCB’s delay in naming a deputy could create uncertainty within the teams as they prepare for high-stakes matches against Sri Lanka and England.
